Grünstadt Regional Hospital relies on storage from Starline
IT provision enables effective health care
Storage successfully moved during operation
Located in the midst of the beautiful hilly landscape on the German Wine Route in the district of Bad Dürkheim, Grünstadt Regional Hospital ensures the well-being of more than 130,000 citizens.
With more than 180 beds and around 9,500 inpatients and 15,000 outpatients per year, the staff there not only have their hands full, they also collect vast amounts of data - be it medical letters, X-rays or treatment plans. And what applies to the day-to-day running of the clinic also applies to IT: There are no company vacations or rest periods. It has to work. Always.
That's why IT manager Frank Titze doesn't take any risks when it comes to IT. He regularly ensures that servers and storage systems are kept up to date. Waiting until something fails would therefore not be an option for him. The duty of care alone requires him to take the initiative at an early stage to technically rejuvenate the complex installation and provide additional fast storage - long before it runs out.
Starline Computer GmbH, in cooperation with the system house Hecker Hard & Software from St. Leon-Rot, was always ready to help in the past: This partnership had already created the technical prerequisites for the installed hospital information system (HIS) based on Dedalus Orbis. Its Oracle database had been running reliably on a highly available DataCore grid for years.
This success story had to be repeated: For the new system upgrade, the project professionals from Starline's Enterprise Storage Solutions team designed two 72-bay Zealbox Storage Appliances (ZSA) with SSD equipment and a 10 Gigabit network clock. From now on, the DataCore grid will be synchronized via fiber optics and thus offer high-availability security in separate racks and separate fire compartments.
The work in the on-site data center was carried out by Hecker in just one day. The new appliances were switched live and moved in remote sessions.
Last but not least, the tiering had to be set up: Tier 1 now provides performance for Dedalus' Oracle database, the approximately 150 VMware View clients, and storage for the performance servers (SQL, Exchange, etc.). Tier 2 powers the remaining application servers, and Tier 3 is fully dedicated to archiving patient data.
With this setup, the employees of the district hospital can devote themselves to their actual task with peace of mind: The well-being of the citizens. They can confidently leave any IT problems to Frank Titze and his team, the Hecker company and the proven support of Starline Computer GmbH.
