In the analogue era, videos got worse with every copy and magazine layouts still had to be glued together manually. Fortunately, this has changed completely. Now media workers work completely digitally and without any loss of quality.

However, the technical effort and working methods have become more demanding. And you can get everything you need from an IT perspective from Starline. That is why we have put together a package that we would also like to show at this year's IBC.

Our exhibits at a glance

Because Starline is broadly positioned in this respect: Our mobile RAID systems from Areca, for example, have even travelled with filmmakers in the Antarctic. We currently offer the models from the ARC-8050T3U series in various expansion stages from four to twelve drive bays. Using the fast Thunderbolt port, you can daisy-chain multiple systems without much effort.

This means you can easily network both Apple and Windows workstations. There is even a model (ARC-8050T3U-6M) that can be supplied with 12 volt power on the move - for example via a solar system or from a vehicle's on-board power supply. We also offer matching transport cases/trolleys.

DAS storage with NVMe performance

If you only need a fast storage extension, we can recommend an NVMe storage NA611TB3 from Netstor. This external storage mirrors the built-in NVMe drives and thus protects the mobile content creator from data loss. We also include the Netstor NA211TB3 expansion enclosure.

This allows any computer with a Thunderbolt port to be upgraded with PCIe cards - such as graphics accelerator, video capture or audio editing cards.

Rackmount SAN storage

As far as rackmount storage systems are concerned, we would like to present our tried and tested DS series from Infortrend at IBC. You can flexibly dock the modular SAN systems to the hosts, be it via SAS, Fibre Channel or Ethernet. They also boast a range of free software features such as thin provisioning, snapshots (64 per source partition or 128 per system) or local replication (block level).

We will also be showing another Areca Thunderbolt storage system from the 8050 series - this time as a 24x rackmount system for SAS/SATA drives. The special feature: The ARC-8050T3 SAN already has five Thunderbolt ports installed ex works. This allows you to network an entire media office in one go. And if you run out of ports, a further four TB ports can be retrofitted.

Essential accessories for media workers

We can also supply the necessary props for the media ensemble. We have ATTO or Broadcom cards in our range that can be integrated into any data centre in terms of the number of ports or data throughput. We also offer the appropriate adapters if the intended design touches on the limits of the data standard. Want an example?

A SAS tape drive can only provide its services within a radius of six metres. The XstreamCORE 8100 SAS-to-Ethernet bridge increases the range to Ethernet level - apart from the fact that all servers connected to the switch can also access the LTO drive. And this also works in virtualised environments.

Speaking of LTO: At the trade fair, we will also be demonstrating complete backup via LTO library in conjunction with P5 from partner Archiware. After all, P5 masters all types of access to the large magnetic tapes through LTFS.

NVMe server with sensational RAID protection

In the server and workstation sector, we excel with the fastest drives on the market: Our NVMe SSDs. To ensure that the performance of the fast SSDs is not slowed down by classic RAID controllers, we implant the GPU booster cards from GRAID Technology in our computers. Their sophisticated software provides RAID protection that works across the PCIe bus. This ensures that our servers deliver NVMe performance to every client.
