Proxmox releases Backup Server Version 3.3

News from Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH

The leading providers of open source enterprise software, have introduced the latest version of their backup solution, Proxmox Backup Server 3.3.

The powerful solution enables the backup and recovery of virtual machines, containers and physical hosts and offers modern technologies such as incremental backups, deduplication, Zstandard compression and authenticated encryption.

Highlights of the new version

1. push synchronization for offsite backups
The synchronization of data between local and external Proxmox Backup Servers can now be done not only by retrieving from the target server (“pull”), but also by actively sending from the source server (“push”). This function is particularly useful if the external server cannot initiate a network connection.

2. support for removable storage datastores
Datastores can now be set up on removable storage media. These so-called “removable datastores” can be easily used between different servers. These storage locations can be mounted and unmounted in an Airgap-friendly manner via the intuitive web interface or the command line.

3. webhook notifications
A new webhook feature makes it possible to trigger notifications such as HTTP requests, for example for synchronization jobs or checking backups. Users can customize requests and content to seamlessly integrate external services.

4. optimized backups for hosts and containers
The detection of unchanged files has been improved, significantly increasing the speed of backups.

5. modernized platform
Proxmox Backup Server 3.3 is based on Debian 12.8 (“Bookworm”) with Linux kernel 6.8.12-4 and offers optional kernel 6.11. In addition, ZFS 2.2.6 is supported with special patches.

An ISO file for Proxmox Backup Server is available at https://www.proxmox.com/downloads and can be installed quickly using the Proxmox installation wizard. Dedicated hardware is recommended for productive operation.
