Large, fast and quiet
16-bay TB3-storage from Netstor with Areca protection
Thunderbolt3 enclosure NS780TB3 from Netstor
If you need a JBOD that can be converted to a RAID system, you’ll like Netstor’s NS780TB3.
The NS780TB3, in combination with a RAID controller or HBA, forms a desktop storage with 16 hot-swappable drives. It is characterized by its compact design with a particularly high storage density. Thus, the NS780TB3 provides a huge storage pool that can quickly help any production site achieve higher capacities.
Since each bay can be equipped with an HDD of 20 TB, the overall system reaches a usable raw capacity of up to 320 TB, making it suitable for 8K content creation and many compositing projects. A fast Thunderbolt 3 interface serves as the host interface, which can consequently deliver up to 2750 MB per second at 40 Gbit/s, which is twice the throughput of Thunderbolt 2 and four times the performance of USB 3.2.
RAID support as needed
By using an appropriate 16-port RAID controller, the classy desktop Thunderbolt JBOD transforms into enterprise RAID storage. So depending on the application, the administrator can use RAID levels 0, 1, 10, 3, 5, 6, 30, 50 and 60 to store and archive data. Alternatively, the NS780TB3 can also be used as an additional storage pool with an HBA.
Ideal companion for Mac Studio
This makes the NS780TB3 the ideal workstation for Apple’s brand new Mac Studio. The latter even has multiple high-speed Thunderbolt 4 ports for the first time, which can be used to connect multiple external devices and mass storage at 40 Gbps. So this pairing delivers ample mass storage capacity for the benefit of diverse demanding workflows in all areas covered by Mac Studio.
Ultra quiet ventilation for sensitive workplaces
For particularly quiet operation, Netstor integrated two 12 cm fans each on the front and back. The fans were chosen to be so large and in such large numbers so that even at their low speed, and thus very quiet, they would protect the electronics of the case and drives from overheating: So one pair pulls the warm air out of the case while the other duo pushes cool fresh air in.
Use Case with NS780TB3 in double pack
Netstor has already set up a test system that is second to none: With two NS780TB3 storage units, each forming a RAID 6 volume, connected to a Mac Studio. Via macOS, the developers then grouped the two Netstor units into a RAID0 volume, which managed a throughput of up to 4200 MB/s to the Mac Studio. The result was an 8K workstation for professional colorists, video editors and content creators.
Suitable for Windows and macOS platforms
Netstor’s 16-bay desktop storage is designed to support Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS operating system platforms, plus the storage enclosure itself requires no drivers to operate and use. Therefore, the NS780TB3 works with all computers and servers running Windows 10/11 and Mac computers including Mac Studio running macOS.
