Requirements

In any case, you must have installed and activated Areca's own Thunderbolt driver on your MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro or iMac. Otherwise, your computer will not display the volume.

If your Mac has macOS Sonoma (or newer) installed and it is a Silicon Mac (M processor), the latest universal driver can be installed.

  • You can download the latest Universal driver 1.4.9 from this link. Alternatively, you can also download the zip file from the Starline Cloud.
  • To allow the driver on Apple Silicon devices (M processor), you may also need to set the following pre-boot settings from this PDF. Alternative download link from Starline for pre-boot settings.
  • Alternative instructions from Apple for changing the security settings on the boot volume
  • Finally, acknowledge the message: Allow accessories after plugging in the Thunderbolt cable.
  • Pay attention to notes on third-party software in the system settings under Privacy & Security (see below).

Driver installation under older macOS versions (Catalina and older)

  • You must always install and activate the Thunderbolt driver from Areca on the MacBook, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro or iMac. For older versions (macOS 10.14.x ~ 10.12.x) or Intel-only Macs, please select the macOS Mojave drivers.
  • The latest Intel driver version 1.4.9 Mojave can be downloaded from this link. Alternatively, you can also download it from the Starline Mirror Link.
  • Please also pay attention to system messages about third-party software in the Security & Privacy system settings (see below).

Step-by-step instructions

Download the latest driver for macOS from the download page.

Alternatively, you can find drivers for older (Catalina and older) and newer (BigSur and newer) in the Starline Cloud. If in doubt, refer to the version table above.
