EOL: End of support for Windows Server 2012/R2
On October 10, 2023, support for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 will end
End of Life
Microsoft will not provide security updates, bug fixes or technical support for Windows Server 2012/R2 after October 10. Companies that are still using servers on this platform are in dire straits: they need to decide how to handle this situation.
Risks of continued operation
Those who continue to run their Windows Server 2012/R2 systems on the network are taking significant risks. Without these security updates, the outdated software opens the door to cybercriminals. The result: possible data loss, interruption of operations, or even significant financial losses.
Moreover, without these updates, there is a risk that new features, improvements or adaptations to new hardware components could lead to compatibility issues.
What can be done?
Companies have several options to prepare for the end of support for Windows Server 2012/R2. If the hardware is not yet too old, upgrading to a new version of Windows might be the best option.
However, Microsoft is also offering organizations the opportunity to purchase Windows Server 2012/R2 Extended Security Updates (ESUs). So through these ESUs, they get three additional years to get a system refresh after mainstream support ends.
