Large 24/7 Enter Priced SAS Hard Drives for Servers, NAS and RAID Systems
SAS hard disks for 24/7 enterprise applications
Our Serial Attached SCSI hard drives from all major manufacturers deliver sustained performance at 12 Gbit per second.
Even if SSDs are now available at low prices, SAS HDDs are still the first choice for very large storage capacities. The main reasons for this are their transmission capacity of over 500 terabytes per year and their long service life. After all, their Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) is more than two million hours. In this respect, hard disks – especially those with SAS interfaces – will continue to run in professional storage systems for a long time to come.
SAS versus SATA
SAS plays almost no role in the private environment, which is mainly due to the fact that consumer mainboards only come with SATA interfaces. However, to run SAS HDDs, you need a SAS controller, which is hardly profitable for home applications. The advantage for the professionals: By tunneling the protocol it is also possible to connect SATA drives to a SAS controller.
But it is not only this compatibility that makes the SAS standard so popular with professionals: their fast data transfer of 12 Gbit/s per port (6 Gbit/s with SATA) also guarantees users higher performance. In addition, dual porting enables this speed to be doubled to 24 Gbit/s or a hard disk with a data rate of 12 Gbit/s each to be docked on two host adapters.
Speaking of hosts: As a serial point-to-point connection, the SAS standard also offers the advantage of being able to operate significantly more devices on a controller via an expander than the controller itself offers ports for. In terms of enclosures, SAS hard disks with SFF or LFF form factor fit in all common servers, NAS or RAID systems. Both designs can be used to expand storage capacities without any problems, as long as they fit into the corresponding drive drawers. However, SFF drives can also be installed in LFF bays.
Premium HDDs from long-term partners
Since we only supply hard disks to professionals, we naturally only use 24/7 models from the enterprise sector for our systems. The solid SAS drives come from our long-term partners Seagate, Toshiba or Western Digital/HGST. As a customer, you therefore benefit not only from a significantly higher manufacturer’s warranty – which we naturally pass on to you – but also from a significantly longer service life compared to consumer HDDs.
