Areca's ARC-9200 RAID head requires only one height unit, offers new ROC (RAID on a Chip) 12 Gbit/s SAS features and supports SATA and SAS drives as well as SSDs. In addition, it can be flexibly and redundantly equipped with three different host port variants. Depending on the version, these can be 2 x 12 Gbit/s SAS, 2/4 x 16 Gbit/s Fibre Channel or with 2 x 10 Gbit/s iSCSI ports. If the docked JBOD is equipped with a SAS expander, even the single controller model can manage up to 256 drives. Each controller already has two gigabytes of DDR3-1600 RAM installed ex works, which can be increased to eight gigabytes. The special functions of the RAID head, such as active/active and fail-over/fail-back operation, ensure reliability with double mounting. Multi-pathing and load balancing are also among its strengths. Finally, the optionally available flash backup and battery backup modules, which can also be retrofitted, provide security against data loss. The ARC-9200 is operated via a browser-based interface. Areca, however, offers additional utilities for Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, macOS and Solaris for download.
