It works as required with dedicated servers, on a NAS or on RAID systems. In addition, drives can be accessed, magnetic tapes can be written to or secured in the cloud – depending on the requirements and security needs.

The "P5 Archive" module of the Archiware P5 data management suite has been expanded with the Data Mover: it provides additional redundancy and also creates space in the primary archive.
The P5 Data Mover provides policy-based moving and copying of already archived data between tape, cloud and disk storage. This HSM-like extension thus provides flexibility for any storage strategy: data can be easily migrated or copied between different storage tiers.
The Data Mover executes its migration plan periodically and selects data according to a predefined age. In this way, it automatically copies or moves data from hot storage to cold storage - or in any other desired direction.

The license scope can be tailored exactly to the required protection needs. This P5 expansion adds another server agent to the licensing model. One agent is required for each additional server operating system. From Archiware's perspective, server operating systems can be: macOS Server (or the standard version used as a server), Windows Server, Linux, FreeBSD, FreeNAS, Solaris, QNAP/QTS, Synology/DSM or NETGEAR/ReadyNAS.
Backup or archive: What is the difference?
In short, a backup always duplicates the files that are still being used in daily production. In comparison, an archive contains all files that have been completed and are part of past productions.
It is, after all, a kind of long-term memory of the company. The files are migrated into the archive, away from the costly high-performance storage of production. After they have been archived, they can be deleted from the production memory.
This already shows that a file can either be in the backup or in the archive. However, one advantage of archiving is that space is freed up on the expensive production memory.
So while the backup protects the current production, the archive protects the files of previous productions. Both a backup and a media archiving solution are needed to protect all files past and present.
