Software Defined Storage (SDS) is the defined provision and management of data storage independent of the underlying hardware. This type of storage virtualization thus separates the storing hardware from the software that manages it. This enables functions such as deduplication, replication, thin provisioning, snapshots and backup. Software-defined storage can be implemented via an appliance through a Storage Area Network (SAN), as Network Attached Storage (NAS) or with object-based storage.

With Starline you are not on the proverbial hook once you have bought something. Starline is an independent medium-sized company that produces servers and storage systems in Germany. Our suppliers - from cables to screws to SSDs - have to undergo internal benchmarking by our technicians and are only included in the programme when their performance is beyond doubt. We also rely on cross-manufacturer standards and not on isolated solutions. Moreover, all systems assembled by us are put through their paces before they leave our premises.
